Ted Haggard's Ongoing Scam

By Brian Karjala

In the year 2010 (less than four years after his gay sex and illegal drug scandals) Ted Haggard started a new church with himself once again in the role of pastor.  He named the Colorado Springs church Saint James.

There's a lot of debate and confusion as to whether or not Haggard should re-assume the role of pastor.  I'll make the answer real simple for you.  Ted Haggard was and still is a conman.

First off, some necessary clarification.  There was no fall from grace because Ted was never in grace.

In Ted's November 2006 confession letter to New Life Church he stated:  "There is part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I've been warring against it all of my adult life..."  Yet during many of his adult years he held the position of senior pastor at New Life, living a lie and compounding the sin.

To call Ted's counselors a "restoration" team implies that they were trying to restore him to his original (sinful) state of being.  That was another misleading word and shows us why these church members who were duped by Ted had no idea how to lead him out of sin.

Ted says that he strongly disagreed with the provisions of the contracts he signed with New Life Church ("restoration" and "separation").  But he agreed to the terms in order to receive the severance package the church offered with the contracts.  Ted's earnings just for the year 2006 was estimated to be around $338,000 (plus benefits and not including book royalties).

Less than one year after Ted was rewarded for his perversity and deception the affluent con artist was soliciting the public for money.

Today you'll hear Ted talk a lot about love, grace and forgiveness.  But you won't hear him talk about truth and accountability (or he will demand it from others while he himself impedes transparency as it relates to those persons he deceived and abused).

There are many questions Ted will not answer.  For instance, how did Ted's New Life Church accumulate 25 million dollars of debt?  Where did that money go?  Neither Ted nor those pesky New Life leaders will answer this question.  (The current congregation has been tasked to pay off the debt while Ted continues his annual overseas vacations.)

That's one of the ways we know they're not legit.  They conceal information.  They're deceivers.

Ted was once asked on a cable news program how many young men he sexually harassed.  He refused to answer the question.  Still think he should be a pastor?  If you do, you'll incur the same judgment of God that has befallen and is still awaiting Ted.

"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality..." (Ephesians 5:3).

So you see, there's no honesty or transparency with that degenerate.  He wants your blessing and acceptance (and control over you) while dodging any question that might shed light upon how many people's lives he ruined.  Several of Ted's numerous victims were paid off with hush money from New Life Church.  How much money in total was paid out and to how many people?  They'll never tell you.

Raise these issues with Ted and you'll find out how loving and gracious he is.  He'll slander and vilify you.

Ted has capitalized on his sins and is very wealthy.  On his church website you can buy a copy of his wife's bestselling book and in the past he was also selling his HBO video (with an inverted cross on the front cover).  This is what the Scriptures call making merchandise of people (2 Peter 2:1-3; KJV).

In early 2007 Ted's apologists were claiming that he was "completely heterosexual."  Nearly four years later Ted stated in the February 2011 issue of GQ magazine:  "I think that probably, if I were 21 in this society, I would identify myself as a bisexual."  (His wife must be very proud.)

Recently Ted was telling people that he "over-repented" for his sins.  That's not true.  In addition to the sexual abuse cover-ups Ted has also never repented for his false teachings or for his associations with false teachers and corrupt politicians.
